PRESS RELEASE FROM CASSELS
for immediate release
Cassels Cider Enters New Era
As heralded in the last copy of the Cambridge Camra magazine ‘ALE’ Cassels Cider has been sold.
The current owner of Cassels Cider, Sinclair Stevenson, is pleased to announce the sale of the business to David and Maria Thompson after recent and fruitful discussions on the future of the Company. Maria and David are both looking forward to the new challenge and opportunities to grow the business and explore new avenues of distribution.
Dave, a trained chef, has a background in the licensed trade, having successfully run pubs for McMullens, Whitbread and Greene King since the late 1980s. He has been living in Cambridge since the mid 1990s, and is currently working as Head Chef at the University Social Club, home of the annual Cambridge Camra Winter Beer Festival and the Oktoberfest.
Maria has a background in administration and has played a supporting roll “behind the scenes” in previous ventures. This time, however, she will be firmly at the forefront.(adding a “feminine sparkle” to cider deliveries if nothing else!!).
Both Maria and Dave will be involved in the business, with Maria handling the PR and sales side, while Dave intends to be more ‘hands on’ in production and operations.
There will be a six-month handover period to cover the autumn apple picking and pressing season. This will provide an opportunity for Dave and Maria to be fully instructed in the process and production of cider making, and to introduce the new owners to customers and suppliers.
Cassels Cider (founded in 1996) is the oldest current cider maker in Cambridgeshire and enjoys a great reputation among traditional cider drinkers. Cassels ciders regularly feature at many Beer and Cider Festivals, both in East Anglia and further afield. The new owners want to build on this fine heritage and further the expansion of the business and of cider drinking generally. (New product lines to follow, see website for more information)
Sinclair Stevenson is very pleased that the Company is being carried forward by two keen and enthusiastic new owners. He will continue to act as adviser and consultant after the official handover at the end of August.
Major website update to follow after apple pressing season 2012
